Staff trip to Ochsenfurt

Our first company outing took us to Ochsenfurt. Leading many to perhaps wonder: Why Ochsenfurt? Where in the world is that?

It all started as it so often does – with the budget. After that had been set, management left all the organisational details to our apprentices. As ingenious as they are, they set their priorities first:

  • A location with overnight accommodations
  • Good food
  • Evening activities
  • … and, okay, a little culture

They settled on Ochsenfurt, situated on the southern tip of the Maindreieck (the triangle formed by the sharp turn of the Main river) in the heart of the Franconia wine region (approx. 20 km from Würzburg).

Rooms were booked at the Hotel zum Schmied, a historic half-timbered house built in 1268.
The cuisine awaiting us was Franconian – meaning plentiful, hearty and delicious!

After arriving in the evening, a few good beers were shared before heading to our rooms for the night.

The next morning, after a full solid breakfast, we started with a tour of the city which included visiting the town hall – along with an informative and very entertaining running commentary.

A Wine Festival was on the evening’s agenda for us to sample some celebrated Franconia wines.

Afterwards, we stormed the town’s local nightclub creating general revelry and hilarity.

We slept in the next day (also well-deserved for some of us).

To round off our trip, we visited the Würzburg Residence and enjoyed a delicious meal under the beautiful, wide open sky.

All in all, a wonderful weekend had by all! Thanks go to our apprentices for organising everything so well.
